At St. Ansgar Chiropractic, we strive to promote wellness and health through more than just spinal adjustments. Health to us means to have an optimal mind, body, and spirit. Nutrition, exercise, and emotional wellness are key for your body to function at an optimal level.
Nutrition:
When the nervous system is free of interference, it can function at an optimal level. Therefore, how we fuel our bodies is extremely important. The USDA's Dietary Guidlines for Americans describes a healthy diet as one that:
- Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat and fat-free milk/milk products;
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts; and
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.
By sticking to the most natural, unprocessed food sources (such as fruits, vegitables, and lean meats), individuals can experience increased energy, greater alertness, and better health. Having a healthy diet does not have to be restrictive or overly difficult. Having a diet of moderation is key.
Also, two-thirds of our body weight is water; therefore, staying hydrated is important. Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Regular physical exercise is essential to obtain a healthy lifestyle. Today, there are less physical demands required of us due to many of our modern conveniences. For this reason, many people do not get the recommended amount of physical exercise. Regular exercise can give you more energy, better physical and mental health (due to the release of endorphines), and reduce your risk for chronic diseases.

Emotional Wellness:
Everyday stress can have a great effect on an individual's health. Through positive thinking and simple relaxation techniques, individuals can reduce their stress and work toward optimal wellness. Some simple ways to do this include:
- Take a deep breath. Focusing on your breathing is a natural way to calm and gently clear your mind.
- Take a moment for yourself. Spend a little time each day in solitude, even if you only have five minutes.
- Think positively. Rather than focusing on what's wrong, focus on what is right.
